Science Education Partnership Award Annual Directors Meeting 2005

The Science Education Partnership Award (SEPA) Directors Meeting was held on February 17-20, 2005 in Tucson, Arizona. The attendees were welcomed by Dr. Marlys H. Witte, MD, Director of Student Research Programs of the University of Arizona and Dr. L. Tony Beck, Director, National Center for Research Resources, NIH.

The attendees to the SEPA 2005 Program Directors Conference, were welcome by Marlys H. Witte, MD, Professor of Surgery, Director of Student Research Programs of the University of Arizona College of Medicine and Dr. L. Tony Beck, National Center for Research Resources, NIH.

The meeting opened with SEPA Project Introductions and Poster Highlights during which all 63 program directors presented a synopsis of their programs. The keynote address was delivered by Mary J. C. Hendrix, PhD, Past President, FASEB, and President and Scientific Director, Professor of Pediatrics, Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine Children's Memorial Research Center, "K-12/Public Outreach/Translational Research and the NIH Roadmap".

The SEPA Program directors had the opportunity to participate actively in discussion panels and break out sessions which addressed topics such as: Curriculum; Project Management/Recruitment; Science Centers/Museums; Evaluation; Dissemination and Partnerships/Networking. Issues related to program evaluation such as the use of logic models and new technology in assessment and evaluation, evaluating professional development, and measuring student outcomes were also discussed in detail by the attendees
