Professional Development Program

Specific Objectives

• To develop and sustain web-based activities focused on stimulating biomedical research activities in the classroom as well as interactions among teachers, students and investigators participating in the program.
  
  
• To establish awards to recognize outstanding teacher efforts in increasing the exposure of K-12 students to biomedical research.
  
  

Outstanding teacher efforts are needed to disseminate the importance of biomedical research and the career opportunities in this field to K-12 students. The Professional Development Program envisions to recognize these efforts and to provide the tools necessary to disseminate effectively our agenda. The main activity will be the development of a web site to be used as a tool to provide and disseminate information related to biomedical research and the diseases that disproportionately affect our population. The web site will be in Spanish to better serve the Puerto Rican population. Investigators, teachers and students will participate in determining the content and/or format of the web site.
