Workshop for Science and Math Teachers on: "How to write a successful educational proposal?"

On September 13th 2006, the BREP Program held as part the Teachers' Professional Development Program a workshop entitled "How to write a successful educational proposal?" Thirty teachers from various schools throughout Puerto Rico participated in the event. The one-day workshop was sponsored by the Pfizer Foundation and was held at the University of Puerto Rico Medical Sciences Campus. Ms. Juanita Morris, Director of the Office of External Resources and Federal Affairs at the University of Puerto Rico was the invited speaker.

Teachers working in small groups draft a proposal following the guidelines provided by the lecturer.

The main goal of the workshop was to provide science and math teachers the necessary tools to write successful educational proposals. In the conference session, Ms. Morris discussed the parts of the proposal, the methodology involved, budget tips, as well as compromises and guaranties involved in the process. The lecture was follow by a hands-on session in which the teachers, working in small groups, designed and prepared a draft-proposal addressing each one of the elements discussed in the lecture.

The administrative staff of the BREP Program, Dr. Emma Fernández Repollet, Principal Investigator, Dr. Abe Schwartz, Co-Investigator, Mr. Felipe N. Padilla, Administrator, and Ms. Odalis García, Assistant Coordinator, also participated in the activity.
